Athletics Ireland has launched the Athletics Ireland Fit4Summer Camps in Athlone.
The summer camps will be held in Athlone International Arena and Sports Campus giving children the chance to try a whole range of athletics activities such as sprinting, javelin, hurdles, shot putt, long jump, walks and relays during the summer holidays.
Ireland’s top 400m athlete Brian Gregan and Athletics Ireland Fit4Summer Camp Ambassador was on hand to launch the event. Gregan said “This is a great step forward for the sport of athletics and an excellent initiative being rolled out by Athletics Ireland. Athletics allows children to develop fundamental skills such as agility, co-ordination and balance all of which will be incorporated into the Athletics Ireland Summer Camps during the summer.”
Fit4Summer Camps are open to boys and girls aged 6+ and are run by fully accredited Athletics Ireland Fit4Life Leaders. The camps will take place in AIT for two weeks in July. Each camp begins on a Monday and runs right through to Friday from 10.30am to 2.30pm starting July 8th to 12th, 15th to 19th.
A chance for children to sprint like Brian Gregan, hurdle like Derval O’Rourke and jump like Deirdre Ryan – the camps provide boys and girls with an exciting week of athletics activities! As well as learning new skills, making new friends whilst having lots of fun each child will go home with a Fit4Summer Tshirt, spike bag and participation certificate. There is also a lunch option available.
Camps are open to children aged 6+ and are priced at €50 for one week with a €10 discount for a second child.
