Boxing: Darren O’Neill talks life after 2012 Olympics

Kilkenny’s Darren O’Neill captained the Irish boxing team in the London 2012 Olympic Games and seemingly had everything going for him… despite going out early at the ExCeL Centre.
As Team Captain he remained behind to support team mates Katie Taylor,John Joe Nevin,Mick Conlan and Paddy Barnes in their successful quest for Olympic medals, Gold in Taylor’s case.
The qualified primary school teacher and Olympic boxer, explains his motivation to compete in London, what its like to be a high performance boxer, what it means to him to represent his country and the value of taking part in sport.
Life has been tough for Darren since those days in London little more than a year ago as he explains here, in this athlete profile from Olympic Council of Ireland, but ‘every cloud has a silver lining’ and without doubt the former Kilkenny All Ireland minor hurling star, has what it takes to succeed in overcoming life’s hurdles and soon return to Ireland’s boxing squad.
