Not for the first time, and almost certainly not for the last,Katie Taylor enters the ring in Bucharest on Saturday afternoon  seeking to add yet another Gold medal to those 15 she already holds.
Standing in her way this year is not Russia’s Sofya Ochigava ,for once,  but 22 years old French champion Estelle Mosselly who caused a major upset Fridaywhen she gained a convincing 3:0 judges verdict over the Olympic silver medallist.
So what of Taylor’s chances today? Speaking to ‘The Irish Independent’ Ireland’s Head Coach Billy Walsh had this to say:
“It was a polished performance from Katie and the tactics were spot on. She kept changing her angles of attack and she used the diversion tactics very well,” said Walsh.
“We’re not going to get a repeat of the Olympic final, the dream final that everyone wanted.
“It will be a tough final, though. The French girl has just beaten the Olympic silver medallist and will be full of confidence. Katie will have to perform to her best.”

As always, Taylor is approaching this final as she does every bout, with caution and great respect for her opponent. Team Taylor will have watched Mossely’s every move yesterday and spent hours looking at all available videos of  bouts involving the French woman.

True Taylor did defeat Mossely in the European Union final last year but that was then and this is now and we saw yesterday that Mossely has improved considerably since that bout albeit some would also say that it was not ‘vintage’ Ochigava.

Today Taylor will be aiming for a 23rd straight European win since first claiming European gold in Norway in 2005  whilst another victory will secure her 16th straight major title. Some achievement that would be  for the woman from Bray.
Today’s finals at the Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest begin at 12 noon(Irish Time) and Taylor is expected to be in the ring just around one pm.
