Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring TD presented Ireland’s Olympic boxing heroes with framed First Day Cover envelopes featuring two stamps issued in July to mark Ireland’s involvement in the 2012 Olympic Games.
The Irish Olympic boxers also today confirmed that they will maintain their amateur status.
Speaking at the event in the National Stadium the Chairman of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) Dr John Lynch said, ‘’it is only right that the boxing team has decided to retain its amateur status. Boxing in Ireland is community based, non-sectarian, non-political and all island.
“Today’s announcement is a reflection of the wonderful work carried out by all the IABA volunteers up and down the 32 Counties.’’
