2026 BetMGM Premier League Darts Night Sixteen Preview: Humphries And Price Battle For Third In Sheffield

The final night of league phase action in the 2026 BetMGM Premier League Darts takes place at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield on Thursday, with Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price battling to decide third and fourth place ahead of Finals Night.

Night Sixteen brings the darting roadshow to the Steel City on Thursday, May 21, as reigning champion Humphries looks to build on his first nightly win of the campaign in Birmingham last week.

Finals Night Line-Up Already Confirmed

The four players heading to The O2 in London for next week’s Finals Night are already confirmed.

  • Luke Littler
  • Jonny Clayton
  • Gerwyn Price
  • Luke Humphries

Littler has sealed top spot after a remarkable campaign that has already brought six nightly wins, while Clayton will finish second after claiming four nightly titles of his own.

However, there is still one key race to settle. Price and Humphries are level on 24 points, with Price currently third due to his greater number of nightly wins.

Humphries Finding Form At The Perfect Time

Humphries arrives in Sheffield in excellent form. He won Night Fifteen in Birmingham, producing averages of 107 and 111 in victories over Stephen Bunting and Luke Littler before defeating Price in the final.

He followed that up by winning Players Championship Seventeen in Leicester on Monday, averaging a superb 104.74 across the tournament.

“It would have hurt me a lot if I didn’t make Finals Night,” said Humphries.

“When it clicks for me, it clicks for me. When it does, I think people see I’m one of the best players in the world.”

The world number two faces Michael van Gerwen in his Sheffield quarter-final, with Van Gerwen now playing for pride after seeing his qualification hopes ended by Humphries last week.

Price Faces Van Veen In Key Quarter-Final

Price opens his Night Sixteen campaign against Dutch number one Gian van Veen.

The Welshman is aiming to secure third place ahead of Finals Night and add momentum to earlier nightly victories in Antwerp and Manchester.

Van Veen, meanwhile, can no longer qualify for The O2, but the 24-year-old will be desperate to end his debut-style campaign with a first nightly victory.

Littler Chasing Premier League History

Luke Littler has already guaranteed top spot and now has the chance to make Premier League history.

The Warrington star can become the first player to win seven nightly titles since the current format was introduced.

Littler faces Josh Rock in his quarter-final. Rock has improved in the second half of the season, but he is still chasing a first win over Littler after losing their previous eight meetings.

Clayton Looks To Sharpen Up Before Finals Night

Jonny Clayton takes on Stephen Bunting in the opening quarter-final.

Clayton has enjoyed an outstanding league campaign and will finish second regardless of what happens in Sheffield, but he will want to return to winning ways before heading to The O2.

Bunting sits seventh in the table, but a second nightly win of the season could still lift him as high as fifth.

Premier League Table Before Night Sixteen

Katie Taylor at Croke Park: A Milestone for Irish Women’s Sports

Having anything but Gaelic games at Croke Park can cause a bit of a stir. Consider that there has been an outcry over the decision to have Leeds United and Manchester United play a friendly game at Croker this summer. It’s not that everyone is annoyed when “foreign” sports are played on the hallowed turf; it’s more that the exception to the rule should be an exceptional one.

Which brings us to Katie Taylor and the push to hold the boxer’s final fight at the stadium. It’s not confirmed yet – we are still at the “advanced talks” stage – but there is a feeling we should get confirmation soon. It all sounds positive coming out of Taylor’s camp, and you get the sense that only a technicality could hold it up. The will is there to put it on.

And what a fitting way to go out for Taylor. She has already done so much to raise the profile of women’s boxing globally. Her Olympic gold, her almost unblemished professional record, her venerated trilogy series with Amanda Serrano, and her partnership with Netflix all served to put women’s boxing on the map in Ireland and abroad.

A big moment for women’s sports

Yet, the date at Croke Park – if it were to go ahead – feels like an important milestone for women in sport. There’s been plenty of great work done to elevate women’s sport in Ireland, especially in sports like rugby union. Yet, there is a consensus that more must be done. Having Taylor fight in front of 82,000+ fans won’t fix everything, but it will be emblematic of the extent to which Taylor has elevated women’s boxing. She’s probably the most famous boxer – of any gender – in Ireland right now.

An important aspect of driving interest in women’s sports is arguably giving it a separate identity from the men’s. The WNBA, for instance, has done a very good job of this, separating itself from the men’s league, driving engagement through everything from social media to WNBA betting to having separate arenas. The patient approach to building the league as a separate “product” is starting to pay off, though the league is taking a multi-decade approach as it expands.

Taylor has helped separate women’s boxing from men’s

Arguably, Taylor’s ascendancy was much the same, taking her to a position where women’s boxing was a distinct draw. The Netflix deal was a prime example of that. The streaming giant made a huge deal of the Irish star, releasing documentaries, publishing blogs, hype packages and, of course, showing the Serrano fight live. There was no sense of women’s boxing being in any way secondary.

And that’s what is so alluring about the potential Croke Park date. It will tell a generation of young girls that “this is a big deal”. Perhaps more importantly, it will showcase women’s sports to the decision-makers and the money-people who can make elite women’s sports events happen. The fight will be about Taylor – one of the greatest boxers in Irish history, and perhaps the best women’s boxer in history – but the event will be about building the distinct identity of elite-level women’s sports in general. Hopefully, they can pull it off.

Irish Fixtures Announced for COED Slowpitch European Championship 2026

Slough, Great Britain | 14–18 July 2026

Ireland’s schedule for the COED Slowpitch European Championship has officially been confirmed, with the Irish side facing a demanding nine-game round-robin campaign across four intense days of competition.

Taking place in Slough, Great Britain, the tournament will see Ireland go head-to-head with the best slowpitch nations in Europe, with consistency, squad depth, and recovery all set to play a crucial role.

Opening Day Challenge

Ireland get their campaign underway on Tuesday, 14 July, starting bright and early against Norway (8:45am). Later that afternoon, they return to action against Czechia (3:00pm), in what will be a quick turnaround on day one.

A strong start will be key, as early wins can build momentum in such a condensed schedule.

Busy Wednesday Schedule

Wednesday represents the toughest test of endurance, with Ireland facing three matches in one day. They begin against Lithuania (9:00am), followed by Austria (2:45pm), before closing out the day with a crucial evening clash against Belgium (7:00pm).

This stretch could define Ireland’s position in the standings, particularly if they can string together multiple wins.

Key Fixtures on Thursday

On Thursday, 16 July, Ireland face Guernsey (10:45am) before taking on one of the tournament’s strongest sides, Germany (2:45pm).

The Germany clash stands out as one of the defining fixtures of the group stage, with potential implications for semi-final qualification.

Final Round-Robin Matches

Ireland wrap up their group campaign on Friday, 17 July, taking on Poland (3:00pm) before a high-profile meeting with hosts Great Britain (6:45pm).

Facing the home side in the final match adds extra intensity, particularly if qualification or seeding is still undecided.

Full List of Ireland Fixtures

  • Norway
  • Czechia
  • Lithuania
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Guernsey
  • Germany
  • Poland
  • Great Britain

Championship Weekend

Following the round-robin phase, Saturday, 18 July will host the placement games and finals, culminating in the Championship Game at 5:00pm.

If Ireland can navigate a challenging schedule and build momentum throughout the week, they will give themselves a strong opportunity to compete for a medal.

Conclusion

With nine games in four days, Ireland’s campaign will demand resilience, squad rotation, and consistent performance. A fast start and strong finish could be the difference between a mid-table finish and a place in the final.

The fixtures are now set — it’s time for Ireland to deliver on the European stage.

Rory McIlroy is an investor in Whoop, wears one of the company’s wristbands while playing, and allows the brand to share his data periodically.

Here are some of his Masters highlights:

• 24,000+ steps on Sunday
• 91,000+ steps during the tournament

Rory’s heart rate spiked to 135 BPM during his tee shot on 18, dropped to 121 BPM during his approach shot, fell further to 105 BPM during his winning putt, and then jumped back up to 150 BPM during his celebration.

His resting heart rate for the week was 47-49 BPM.

Rory says he follows a strict routine during the PGA Tour season to ensure proper rest and recovery:

• No caffeine after 2 PM
• Last meal at least 2 hours before bed
• Magnesium and theanine for sleep quality
• Blue-light-blocking glasses in the evening
• Sauana or Epsom salt bath when available
• Cool room temperature for sleep

He follows the same three-hour routine before every round: arrive at the course → warm up in the gym → eat breakfast → hit balls on the range → putting green.

Rory says he believes his focus on longevity will help him play another 10+ years at a high level, and his physiological age on Whoop is now 1.5 years younger than his actual age.

Plus, it turned out to be a pretty good investment.

Rory initially invested in Whoop in 2020 when the company was valued at $1.2 billion. While we don’t know exactly how much he invested, Whoop recently raised another round at a $10.1 billion valuation.

That’s an 8.4x multiple in five years.

Not bad, not bad.

Shortt and Kelly Smash Irish Records in Bangor as Championship Standards Soar

John Shortt and Jack Kelly delivered a sensational night of swimming at the Irish Open Championships and Commonwealth Games Trials in Bangor, rewriting the record books and underlining Ireland’s growing strength in the pool.

The pair produced standout performances on Night Two of finals, setting new Irish and Championship records while helping a host of swimmers achieve qualification standards across a packed international calendar this summer.

Shortt Hits World-Class Mark in 100m Backstroke

At just 19 years of age, John Shortt continues to establish himself as one of Ireland’s brightest prospects. The National Centre Limerick swimmer stormed to victory in the 100m Backstroke final in a time of 53.17, setting a new Irish and Championship record.

The time places him among the top four swimmers in the world in 2026 and comfortably inside the consideration standard for the European Aquatics Championships.

Shortt had only set the previous Irish record of 53.37 two weeks earlier in Paris, highlighting the rapid trajectory of his development.

“It was a good race… a bit disappointed, wanted to be 52, but you can’t have it all your own way,” Shortt admitted afterwards.

He was joined on the podium by team-mates Paddy Johnston (55.57) and Neddie Irwin (56.54), completing a dominant showing for National Centre Limerick.

Kelly Announces Himself with Record-Breaking Swim

Jack Kelly made an immediate impact on his Irish Championship debut, producing a stunning swim in the 50m Breaststroke.

The 23-year-old, who recently committed to representing Ireland, clocked 26.84, breaking Darragh Greene’s long-standing Irish record (26.94) and improving his own Championship mark set earlier in the day.

It was a landmark performance that also secured qualification for the European Aquatics Championships.

“I feel amazing… it just shows the work I’ve been doing in Austin has paid off,” Kelly said after the race.

Greene (27.62) and Eoin Corby (27.81) completed the podium, with both swimmers also achieving European consideration times.

Ireland Building Depth Ahead of Major Championships

The performances in Bangor reflect a wider surge in Irish swimming, with 24 consideration times achieved across multiple international competitions including:

  • European Aquatics Championships
  • Commonwealth Games
  • European Junior Championships
  • European Para Swimming Championships

With established stars and emerging talent delivering in equal measure, Ireland’s squad is shaping into a serious force heading into a packed summer schedule.

Competition continues through to Sunday, with further qualification times expected as swimmers chase places on the international stage.

Premier League Darts 2026 Night 10 Preview: Gerwyn Price Targets Top Spot in Brighton

Gerwyn Price will aim to move top of the Premier League Darts 2026 table when Night 10 takes place at The Brighton Centre on Thursday. The Welsh star arrives in form after a dominant display in Manchester, while Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen are all chasing crucial points in the race for the Play-Offs.

Price Chasing Premier League Darts Summit

Gerwyn Price produced one of the performances of the season on Night 9, recording averages of 104.5, 112.9 and 105.8 to claim victory in Manchester. Wins over Michael van Gerwen, Stephen Bunting and Gian van Veen underlined his credentials as a serious contender for the 2026 Premier League title.

The Welsh number two now sits second in the table, level on points with Jonny Clayton and ahead on leg difference. A strong run in Brighton could see Price move to the top of the Premier League standings for the first time this season.

Price faces Josh Rock in his opening match, with the Northern Irishman showing signs of form after a difficult start to the campaign.

Josh Rock Building Confidence After Breakthrough Win

Josh Rock has won his last two quarter-finals after losing his opening seven matches in the 2026 Premier League Darts season. The 24-year-old claimed his first victory in Berlin before backing it up with a strong performance in Manchester, defeating Clayton despite a 107+ average from the Welshman.

Rock still sits nine points outside the Play-Off places, but a late surge is not out of the question. Confidence has clearly returned, and he will look to test Price early in Brighton.

Ulster and Connacht Stars Feature in Key Matchups

Jonny Clayton takes on defending champion Luke Humphries in one of the standout ties of Night 10. Clayton has slipped to third after a recent dip in form, while Humphries is looking to build momentum after an inconsistent start to the campaign.

Meanwhile, league leader Luke Littler faces Stephen Bunting in a repeat of their high-quality clash in Berlin, where both players averaged over 105. Littler will be confident returning to Brighton, having won here last season.

Van Gerwen v Van Veen Could Shape Play-Off Race

Michael van Gerwen meets Gian van Veen in an all-Dutch showdown that could prove decisive in the race for the Premier League Play-Offs. Van Gerwen currently occupies fourth place, with Van Veen just one point behind despite reaching four finals this season.

Golf has its hierarchy, rankings, resumes, and major wins. Those still matter, but they don’t always show who’s most dangerous heading into the next event.

Odds offer a sharper lens, shifting quickly to reflect current form and how players are performing right now.

A glance at the board each week tells a deeper story. Not just who the big names are, but who is trending, who fits the course, and who is quietly building momentum across events. In today’s PGA Tour landscape, that distinction matters more than ever.

Odds vs Rankings: A Clearer Picture of Current Form

Official rankings reward consistency over long stretches, which makes them useful for measuring careers. Still, they often lag behind reality. A player can remain near the top while recent performances suggest a different level of form.

Odds move faster. A missed cut, a top-five finish, or a stretch of strong ball-striking can quickly reshape expectations. Adjustments happen within days, not months, reflecting what’s happening in the moment on a week-to-week tournament basis.

That’s why the odds board often feels sharper. It captures real-time form, showing which players are rising into contention and shortening in price before rankings catch up. For bettors, that shift highlights who is performing now, not who built their reputation earlier.

The Scheffler Standard

Every era has a player who sets the tone. Right now, that player is Scottie Scheffler. His current run has reshaped expectations of what consistent dominance looks like on tour. It’s not just about winning, it’s about how often he puts himself in position to win.

His place at the top of the odds board isn’t just about wins, it’s about reliability. Week after week, he gains strokes tee-to-green at an elite level across all tournaments played. Even when the putter cools, his overall game keeps him firmly in contention.

That consistency shapes how he’s priced. His odds rarely drift, regardless of course or field. It reflects a broader shift in how favorites are defined. Flashy players may win, but consistent performers like Scheffler stay near the top every week.

Form Over Fame: Momentum Driving the Market

Reputation still carries weight, but it no longer dictates the odds. Recent performance has become the primary signal, with players judged more on current form than past achievements over the last few tournaments leading into each event.

A golfer stringing together top-10 finishes will often be priced shorter than a more decorated name struggling to find rhythm. Momentum matters, and so does timing. The game increasingly rewards those peaking at the right moment.

Following PGA odds makes that trend easy to spot. Numbers shift as players gain or lose momentum, highlighting who is trending heading into the week. The gap between fame and form becomes clear, with the market favoring consistent performers over established names.

Consistency as Currency on Tour

Winning gets headlines, but consistency builds trust. Players like Xander Schauffele and Tommy Fleetwood may not always dominate, yet they show up week after week, making cuts and staying near the top of leaderboards.

That reliability carries over to how they’re priced across weekly tournaments and varying field strengths. Steady performance signals dependability, and the market responds by keeping them firmly in the mix.

Key traits of these players include:

Regular top-10 finishes,
Low missed-cut rates,
Minimal blow-up rounds.

Steady performance builds confidence, signaling a player can stay in contention even without always closing. The modern odds board reflects that preference, favoring high-floor players who rarely fall apart over more volatile stars.

Course Fit and Changing Favorites Week to Week

Not every course rewards the same skill set, and that reshapes the list of favorites each week depending on layout, conditions, and overall course design. What works on one layout may not translate to the next, making adaptability a key factor.

Long, demanding courses tend to favor power players off the tee, while tighter layouts and tricky greens bring precision players into focus. Those shifts show up clearly in the odds, where players can move up or down based on how well their strengths match the venue.

A player outside the top tier one week can quickly rise the next if the course fits their game. Ball-striking remains the most reliable skill, but course fit still plays a major role. Favorites, in that sense, aren’t fixed; they evolve with the schedule.

What the Numbers Suggest About True Contenders

Behind every number sits a foundation of data, with one factor standing out above the rest: how well a player strikes the ball, measured through strokes gained metrics across multiple tournaments. It remains the clearest indicator of sustained performance.

Tee-to-green play is repeatable, with strong driving and iron play translating across courses. Putting, by contrast, fluctuates more. A hot week on the greens can create a spike, but it’s far less reliable over time, which shapes how players are viewed on the odds board.

Those consistently gaining strokes before the green tend to stay near the top, with results built on stability rather than short-term bursts. Following the latest PGA Tour news and trends helps connect those patterns to who is most likely to contend.

Reading the Market: Performance Meets Perception

Data tells part of the story, but the market adds another layer through betting activity and shifting public sentiment each week. Performance shapes expectations, while perception influences how those expectations are priced.

Popular players attract attention, and that attention impacts their odds in weekly markets. Well-known names often carry shorter numbers due to heavier backing, while quieter players can be overlooked despite strong performances.

The clearest signals come when both forces align. When strong data meets public confidence, numbers move quickly, and those players emerge as clear favorites. That balance explains the board each week, reflecting not just performance, but perception.

A New Definition of a Favorite

The idea of a “favorite” on the PGA Tour has shifted. It’s no longer built on reputation or past success, but on consistency, current form, and adaptability. Today’s top contenders show up regularly, with games that travel across courses and hold up under pressure.

Odds reflect that shift more clearly than rankings in today’s fast-moving PGA Tour landscape. They focus on what’s happening now, capturing form and momentum as they develop, and offering a more accurate view of who truly stands out in the field today.

Ireland’s Kate O’Connor won a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships this evening and in the process becomes the first Irishwoman to win two World Indoor medals.

The Dundalk St Gerard’s AC athlete began the final event of the day, the 800m, in Poland in a strong position.

O’Connor produced a personal best of 2:10.26 to take the bronze medal. She finished only 49 points behind gold medallist Sofie Dokter of The Netherlands on a score of 4,888. American Anna Hall took silver with 4,860 points.

Kate O’Connor’s reaction

Reacting to her achievement this evening, Kate O’Connor stated:

“I came here with very high expectations and although I maybe didn’t meet them, I’m coming away a world bronze medallist and I really can’t complain with that. I think it’s probably a good thing that I am walking away thinking I could do a little better, but ultimately I’m delighted.”

Good start in 60m hurdles

O’Connor started the 60m hurdles strongly this morning as she clocked 8.23 seconds – just 0.02 outside her personal best set at the recent National Indoor Championships. She then achieved a best clearance of 1.81m in the high jump, achieved on her final attempt despite tripping on a cable during her opening run-up.

In the shot put, the final event of the morning session, the 25-year-old opened with 14.59m, improved to a 1cm personal best of 14.65m in her second round, and then extended that further to 14.70m with her final throw.

The Irish athlete began the evening session with a foul in the long jump before producing a best of 6.38m on her final attempt.

Array of medals

This result continues a remarkable run of success at major championships for O’Connor. In 2025, the Dundalk athlete claimed a bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships, took silver at the World Indoor Championships, struck gold at the World University Games, and silver at the World Outdoor Championships.

Only two Irish athletes, Sonia O’Sullivan and Catherina McKiernan, have now won more individual global medals at senior championships.

Outlining her plans for this season, O’Connor explained:

“My plan is to do the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. I’ll open at the Commonwealths, and then the Europeans are the main aim for me. I want to try and win gold. It’s going to be a tough competition, but if you don’t go in with the mindset to win gold, you’re never going to do it. I’m going to work really hard for the next four or five months and put myself in the position to win that gold.”
