Munster U21 HC Semi-Final: Clare v Waterford in Cusack Park, throw in 7:30pm.
Clare and Waterford face off tonight to determine who goes forward to meet Tipperary in the decider in three weeks’ time.
This is the first round for both teams and that brings with it a lot of uncertainty. Clare have enjoyed a revival in underage hurling over the last few years, winning Munster titles at both minor and U21 level.
The Clare Senior team this year featured several U21s and that experience will really stand to those players tonight. Colm Galvin, Tony Kelly, Aaron Cunningham and ace marksman Conor McGrath are the men that will be expected to lead the charge for the home team.
Waterford doesn’t boast as many senior stars but as Tipperary proved last night this can be an inaccurate indicator of a team’s overall balance. The Déise men have been very competitive at this grade in recent campaigns. They have failed to land any silverware but have never been easily defeated.
The O’ Mahoney brothers, Pauric and Philip, Jake Dillon and Gavin O’ Brien are the players that will need to be on song if they are to upset the home side.
Overall a tough game to call as both teams look evenly balanced but Clare has an excellent home record at all levels and they might just shade this one.
