Munster U21 HC Semi-Final: Clare 2-22 – Waterford 0-09
Clare qualified for the Munster final last night after a comfortable victory over a disappointing Waterford team in Cusack Park.
Brian O’ Halloran opened the scoring with a point for Waterford but from then on there was only one team in it. Clare started to dominate all over the field and their pacey clinical forwards scored at will.
Free taker Cathal O’ Connell and corner forward David O’ Halloran tormented the visitors and they would finish the game with 1-14 between them.
At the interval the home team were in command and led on a score line of 1-11 to Waterford’s 0-04.
Early in the second period the Déise men required a quick goal to ignite their challenge, but it was the home side who found the net via the stick of Tony Kelly, this score effectively ended the game as a contest.
A hungry Clare side continued to apply pressure and in the end ran out easy victors by a margin of 19 points.
Waterford were extremely poor on the night and they were never really in this contest. Clare on the other hand looked very impressive and on this showing should be favourites to win the final.
