Kevin Ryan has stepped down from his post as manager of the Carlow hurling team. According to reports the split with the team is by mutual consent with the county board.
Ryan had overseen a huge growth in the county’s fortunes during his four years in charge. In his first two years as manager, Carlow won successive Christy Ring Cups and earned themselves promotion to the Leinster championship.
Last year they pulled off a shock win over neighbours and bitter rivals Laois in the Leinster championship. Ryan was also behind their elevation to Division 1B of the National Hurling League for 2013 as their stock continues to rise.
However Laois gained revenge on them in the provincial championship this year and they exited the qualifiers at the hands of Wexford. The reasons behind Ryan’s departure are not yet clear.
