Kilkenny have booked a date with Galway on the 9th of September in the All-Ireland hurling final after hammering Tipperary by double scores.

As expected the game took off at a thunderous pace as both teams looked to set the tone in the physical exchanges. Kilkenny were dominating in several positions but they failed to make it tell on the scoreboard.

Some last ditch defending and the excellent goalkeeping of Brendan Cummins kept the cats at bay on several occasions. TJ Reid did find the net when released by a brilliant Henry Shefflin pass but otherwise they were wasteful by their own high standards.

Noel McGrath and his attacking colleagues were living off scraps but through some opportunist finishing and a fortuitous goal they somehow found themselves in front by one point at the interval.

The second half was a completely different story and right from the off Brian Cody’s men went for the jugular. They continued to dominate possession but now their attack was starting to click and they put on an exhibition of forward play for the remainder of the game.

Aiden Fogarty raced through the centre to drive a great goal on 45 minutes and when Eoin Larkin added a second on 52 minutes the game was effectively over as a contest. Kilkenny continued to find the target, with Eoin Larkin, TJ Reid and Aiden Fogarty particularly impressive.

Kilkenny now march on to the final against Galway on September 9th and on the evidence of today’s tremendous performance they look odds on to land their ninth All Ireland title in 13 seasons.
