Referee Pat Fox, is back in the headlines once more, just a week after returning to inter-county action.
Fox had been absent for much of this season’s league, and many believed that it was a punishment for an incident that took place back in February, when he refused to send off Tyrone’s Ryan McMenamin. At that time,he gave the defender a yellow card and refused to upgrade it, even when questioned by the CCCC.
Last Sunday, Fox sent off Dublin forward, Alan Brogan in Salthill, and with Pat Gilroy considering whether to appeal the decision, the spotlight is back on Fox once again. Brogan was dismissed after just seven minutes at Pearse Stadium following an off the ball clash with Galway’s Johnny Duane.
However, this time the decision may be taken out of Fox’s hands. If television footage can exonerate Brogan, the CCCC will make the decision to downgrade the red card without the need for consultation with the official.
