Down and Kildare progressed to the Christy Ring Cup semi finals on Saturday. Down easily overcame Meath by 1-18 to 1-7 as a strong first half performance blew away the Royal County. Kildare enjoyed a decisive 4-18 to 1-13 victory over Derry.
Down started well and got off to a quick 1-5 to 0-0 lead. Meath struggled to get any foothold on the game as Down continued to fire over scores. At the break, the game was already over as a contest, with Down leading overwhelmingly by 1-12 to 0-1.
Meath scored a goal early in the second half and managed to reduce the arrears to 1-15 to 1-6. The Ulster team, however, continued to regularly score points and ended the game as comfortable 11 point winners.
Kildare got off to a blistering start in Derry. David Harney, Martin Fitzgerald and Tony Murphy all scored goals for the Lilywhites in a frantic first fifteen minutes, while Cathal McKeever also netted for Derry. The Leinster team reached the interval with a commanding 3-8 to 1-9 lead.
The Lilywhites continued to dominate after the break. Fitzgerald scored again for Kildare early in the second half, while Derry only managed four points in a lacklustre second half performance.
Kildare progress to meet Wicklow in the semi finals, while Down will face Kerry.
