The 2011 GAA Handball All Ireland HARDBALL Championships got underway at the weekend – we have now reached the halfway point in both senior and junior events in what promises to be an outstanding championship season , especially in the seniors.

Kerry’s Dominick Lynch defeated Cork rival Colm Jordan 8-21, 21-4 21-13 in their first round clash in Broadford whilst Meath’s Tom Sheridan overcame the challenge of Campbell Brennan (Mayo) by 21-6 21-13 to reach the second round.

Seamus O’Carroll from Limerick was another winner -21-9 21-11 up against Kildare’s Darragh Ward.

No major upsets at the weekend then – some fine games in store this week too with matches on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Dublin’s Eoin Kennedy returns to Senior Singles action in an event he has dominated of late and he will await the outcome of tonight’s first round tie involving Mayo’s Joe McCann and CJ Fitzpatrick from Limerick . Another exciting game in store for fans is that between 2010 finalist, Mayo’s Vinnie Moran and

Westmeath’s Robbie McCarthy at Ballymoe . One of the favourites for this year’s title , Limerick’s Seamus O’Carroll clashes with Munster compatriatiot, Kerry’s Dominick Lynch at Hospital HC while the outstanding clash of the round – on paper at least – involves two of Hardball’s leading stars of past few

years, Meath’s Tom Sheridan and Mayo’s Dessie Keegan, who won the title in 2008.
