Joe Canning has emerged as a major doubt for Galway’s Leinster GAA Championship quarter-final against Westmeath on Saturday, June 4.
Canning missed much of the league through injury and has been struggling with a hamstring strain again recently. He aggravated the injury last Friday, playing for his club Portumna and is now doubtful for the championship tie.
Galway are hot favourites to see off Westmeath and face a Leinster Championship semi-final with Dublin or Offaly on Jun 18. Manager John McIntyre is unlikely to play Canning against the Lake County if his injury does not heal up.
“He is having some hamstring trouble,” McIntyre said. “It has been bothering him for the last few weeks, but club spirit saw him line out for Portumna and he is a major concern for us.”
