Bryan Cullen has been named as captain of the Dublin senior footballers for the 2011 Championship season.

Cullen previously captained the side to the Leinster title in 2006, when he stood in for the injured Colin Moran. The new skipper has been a versatile option for the Dubs throughout his career, and has lined out in both attack and defence in recent seasons. Paul Griffin has been selected as vice captain.

Dublin manager Pat Gilroy announced the decision saying: “Bryan’s just a very calm individual. Paul was a great captain and he will be a great vice-captain for him as well. The two of them are very calm and they lead by example. They do the things that you want done.”

The Blues play Laois in the Leinster quarter-final on Sunday week and management were anxious to appoint a captain before that tie. Up until recently Gilroy had been using a number of different men but he has settled on his leaders and the team can now look ahead to the Laois game.
