Down forward Danny Hughes has said that Saturday’s Ulster Championship match with Armagh will be a real test of just how far his county have progressed over the past twelve months.
Speaking in today’s Irish Independent, Hughes said: “We had a decent league without beating any of the three top teams. Are we good enough to be consistent and to be there or thereabouts in the final of an All-Ireland or semi-finals, are we good enough to be there for the next number of years? I think we’ll know the answer this season.
“Can we break the stranglehold that Armagh and Tyrone have on the Ulster title? It’s in the results and how we perform. The first step is Armagh. If we get through that, we look to the next game and try and build on it.”
