28 year old Setanta Ó’hAilpín has ruled out any chance of a future return to the Cork hurlers by signing for Aussie Rules side the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
Ó’hAilpín is an Australian Irish athlete who has played hurling as well as Aussie Rules. He joined his elder brother Seán Óg on the Cork team for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2003, which lost the final to Kilkenny in September.
“Carlos”, as he is known by teammates, made his AFL debut in 2005 but has found his chances limited and has endured a frustrating few seasons, making only eight appearances with the Carlton Blues last season after 14 appearances last year.
The former young hurler of the year’s new coach is Kevin Sheedy, who was previously in charge of the Australian international rules team.
