The FBD League continues this weekend, with a number of games down for decision.
Most of the ties should be straightforward affairs, with perhaps the tie of the round being the local derby between Sligo and their IT students on Sunday afternoon.
The action gets underway on Saturday evening with the meeting of NUI Galway and London.
The college side will be hot favourites to take the spoils here and in truth,it would be a big surprise were the exiles to cause an upset and take the points.
Sunday sees a meeting of two county sides, with Leitrim hosts Roscommon.
The visitors should prove good enough to win this one, having hit the ground running in recent seasons. Mayo meet the students of Galway/Mayo IT, and James Horan’s side will almost certainly have too much firepower for their opponents.
Mayo have plenty to prove in 2012 after their championship collapse to Kerry and will see this competition as an early chance to redeem theirselves.
The “Sligo Derby” can go the way of the inter-county side, who have a point to prove after a poor campaign last season. On their day, the men in black and white are a match for most sides, and they can prove that with a victory here.
An easy win over London on the opening day will have boosted Sligo’s confidence and given them the perfect start to the campaign. They can double their points tally this Sunday and remain in contention for the league.
NUIG and Mayo are also both unbeaten to date and the picture should become a little clearer by Sunday evening.
With Galway not in action this weekend,we will learn how much their opponents have improved since the opening rounds.
Mayo, Sligo, NUIG and Roscommon are put forward as the most likely winners.
