Turloughmore’s Fergal Moore will captain Galway hurlers in 2012 , commencing with Sunday’s battle with Dublin at Pearse Stadium (2.30pm).
The long serving Turloughmore clubman suffered a serious ankle injury, ironically against Dublin, in 2010 which kept him out of the game for many months.
He did however make a fine recovery and in May 2011 played a major role in Turloughmore’s shock win over then champions Clarinbridge in the Galway SHC.
Moore won All Ireland minor medals with Galway in 1999 and 2000 and holds an Allianz National League medal from 2004.
For Sunday’s clash at Pearse Stadium, Galway Manager Anthony Cunningham will be without Joe Canning, Andy Smith, Kevin Hynes and Niall Healy ,all of whom are on the injury list. Canning awaits the outcome of further tests today following the injury suffered to the AC joint in his shoulder whilst helping Limerick IT reach the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final yesterday, against GMIT. It is understood though that he is likely to be out for a minimum of four weeks, though that can only be confirmed once the full test results are known..
Galway GAA have confirmed they are introducing a Children’s pass for the Pearse Stadium tie against Dublin. All children under the age of 16 are invited and on arrival will receive a Supermacs Galway personal autograph book. The Pass is also being distributed through National Schools in the county.
A nice initiative that from Galway GAA which other counties would do well to take on board and help increase the number of under 16′s attending League games.Equally valid initiative for football counties to ponder. Players will be available after the game to sign autographs for the kids and a special draw will take place at half-time for bicycles and Galway hurling jerseys.
