Mayo and Down face off at MacHale Park in Castlebar in the Allianz Football League Division One on Sunday. The encounter sees the league leaders go up against the table’s bottom dwellers.
Mayo began their campaign with a comfortable 1-11 to 0-8 victory over Laois, while their encounter with Dublin was called off at half-time. Mayo then beat Armagh by 1-14 to 0-11 last weekend, with Alan Freeman top scoring with six points.
Down narrowly beat Donegal 1-10 to 1-9 on the opening day of the league season. The Ulstermen have since suffered disappointing losses to Cork and Kerry by 13 and six points respectively.
Conor Mortimer, who has returned from injury this season, could be set to beat Mayo’s all-time scoring record. Joe Corcoran holds the current record, scoring 20-358 for a total of 415 point between 1958 and 1974. Mortimer has scored 14-360 (402 points) so far in his career.
