The Camogie Association will commemorate the memory of the late Biddy Phillips with the launch of the Inaugural Camogie Legends tournament this Saturday, March 5th at St Judes GAA Club, Dublin.
The Camogie Legends Cup will be named in honour of the late Mrs Phillips, a national camogie referee and administrator, who passed away on July 6th 2010. She experienced the greatest thrill of her sporting career through her involvement as Team Manager of the all-conquering Tipperary side of the 1999-2001 era.
Phillips managed Tipperary to their first Senior Camogie All Ireland title in 1999 but as Brigid ‘Biddy’ Heffernan had been a fine Camogie player herself in the ‘70s and indeed in 1971 played for Tipp at Under 18,Junior and Senior championship level.
She was a long serving member of the Camogie Association serving on the National Referees Committee. She took charge of the All Ireland Senior Camogie Final in 2007 and was also referee for the Intermediate, Junior & Senior Club All Ireland Finals between 1993 and 1999. She also acted as treasurer of Tipperary Camogie Board from 1988 to 2000.

The Camogie Association is honoured to have the opportunity to commemorate the memory of Biddy with the Inaugural Legends Tournament and we look forward to a great event on the day.”
The Camogie Legends tournament will take place at St Judes GAA Club, Templeogue Dublin on Saturday March 5th. Cork, Clare, Kilkenny, Galway and Wexford are confirmed for the seven-a-side tournament. The event commences at 11.00am with finals scheduled to take place at 3.30pm.
Former Camogie greats such as Cork’s Linda Mellerick, Kilkenny’s Ann and Angela Downey as well as Galway’s Sharon Glynn are among some of those scheduled to play.
