Cavan and Tyrone reach Ulster U21 final

Updated: April 5, 2012

This year’s Ulster under 21 football decider will be a repeat of the 2011 decider.

The Red Hand county were good value for their 0-16 to 1-08  victory over Down.  Having led by 0-09 to 0-04 at half-time, Tyrone were given a scare when Donal O’Hare goaled early in the second half.  Tyrone maintained their composure however and did enough to see out the win.

In Enniskillen, Cavan reached their third provincial decider in a row as they recorded a narrow but deserved 2-08  to 1-09 win over Derry.

The holders raced into an early lead with Kevin Tierney netting as the Breffni men went 1-02 t0 0-01 ahead.  However an Emmet McGuckin goal inspired the Oak Leaf men as they established a 1-04 to 1-02 interval advantage.

Cavan kept in touch however and the scores were level at 1-07 apiece going into the last  ten minutes.  Padddy King then scored a goal for what proved to be the decisive score.
