The Cavan County Board have confirmed that the county will field no senior hurling team in 2012.
The Breffni men were unable to field a team in the 2011 Championship and now the County Board have announced the county will not be participating in either the Ulster Championship or the Lory Meagher Cup next season.
However, secretary Liam McCabe is hopeful that the underage development will help Cavan field a hurling team at senior level in the near future.
“The senior hurling team were not in a position to field teams in the Ulster championship and Lory Meagher tournaments,” McCabe said.
“This was regrettable but plans are in place at underage level so in a few years we should be able to take our place at U21 and senior level.”
