Former Kerry captain Colm Cooper has confirmed that his current break from football is to recharge the batteries. He also gave the new manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice his full backing, and said that he would return shortly.
The Dr Crokes player has decided to take some time off, despite the fact Kerry are sitting towards the bottom of Division One, after two disappointing displays to date. Cooper confirmed that he doesn’t have an injury, and called on Kerry fans to give the new manager time:
“I’ve spoken to Eamonn and we agreed to keep in touch over the next few weeks,” Cooper says in The Irish Independent. “I’ve no big injury problem, it’s just to mentally recharge the batteries a little bit because when you do go back it will be full tilt.
“The worst thing you could do would be to go back too early and then hit a wall midway through a season.
“There’s no one hitting the alarm buttons. Eamonn is a smart guy and he’s looking at the bigger picture for Kerry football.
“We just have to start working a little better and a little harder and I think we’ll start to see better results and that would be great for the young fellas who are in there at the minute.”
