AIB Munster GAA Football Senior Club Championship Semi-Finals: Dr. Crokes (Kerry) v Clonmel Commercials (Tipperary), Killarney @ 2:00pm.
Defending Munster champions Dr. Crokes have home advantage when surprise package Clonmel Commercials visit Killarney on Sunday in the Munster senior club championship semi-final.
Crokes are the most successful side in Kerry club football and have just completed a three-in-a-row where they comprehensively defeated Daingean Uí Chúis 0-8 to 2-13 in the county final. Along the way they defeated, Austin Stacks and Laune Rangers in the quarter-final and semi-finals respectively, where they averaged 15 points per game and only conceded 14 points in total.
In the Munster quarter-final against Clare side Kilmurry/Ibrickane, Crokes suffered a rare scare in the second-half and almost squandered an eight point lead. Two saves from Crokes goalkeeper David Moloney steadied the ship but the Clare team pushed Dr. Crokes all the way and limited the Munster champions to a single point in the last 20 minutes. Crokes held on for a 2-08 to 0-13 win.
Clonmel Commercials enter this game after winning their first county title in ten years when they defeated Thomas McDonaghs 1-09 to 0-05 on November 4th. The Tipperary side put Cahir and Arravale to the sword in the early stages of the championship to claim crown number 15 in total.
Unfortunately for Clonmel, Colm Cooper has withdrawn from the All-Star trip to New York which takes place this weekend and is available for Dr. Crokes this Sunday. The Kerry legend has been ruthless all this championship, scoring four goals against St. Michaels in an earlier round of the Kerry championship.
It’s really hard to see past a Dr. Crokes win with the quality they have at their disposal. However if the Kerry side sit back like they did against Kilmurry/Ibrickane, Clonmel will be ready to pounce and make Crokes pay.
