Its Leinster Hurling again this weekend and we preview Laois v Carlow along with all the team news & live score updates.
This game between to local rivals should be an intriguing battle. Laois have only played one game so far in the round robin series which was away to Westmeath last weekend and they managed to come out on top on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-09.
Laois had an impressive Division 1b campaign by staying up while also getting a bonus of quarter final spot which they narrowly lost out to the All Ireland champions Clare. This is why Seamus “Cheddar” Plunkett’s charges are hot favourites to advance to the Leinster quarter finals. Carlow on the other hand lost to Antrim last weekend and should they lose this big game their chances of reaching the Leinster quarter finals are very slim.
Laois and Carlow have met many a time in previous seasons in the championship with little to separate the teams on most occasions. However, last year Laois had an easy victory over the Barrowsiders with a 2-18 to 0-13 victory. Laois have made great progress over the last year under Seamus Plunkett, such progress will be shown if they reach a Leinster Quarter final.
Carlow played in Division 2a of the league this year and were beaten by Kerry in the final. John Meyler’s charges will need a win on Sunday to remain in contention for a quarter final spot.
Laois with the very talented players of Cahir Healy, Willie Hyland, and Stephen are all very good hurlers and could get on any team in the country. Carlow have the Mount Leinster contingent with the ever impressive Denis Murphy in attack. Expect this game to go down to the wire in Portlaoise.
