All-Ireland winner Stevie McDonnell is set to give players and coaches in Dublin and Mayo tips on improving their performance – whatever their level.

The former Armagh forward, who kicked the winning point against Kerry in the 2002 final, will be among a panel offering advice at a free event being held in Castlebar on Monday, November 19, and at Croke Park on Thursday, November 29.

He will be joined by ex-New Zealand rugby union player development manager Paul MacKinnon and other experts to discuss how the emerging field of performance analysis can benefit grassroots clubs and athletes.
Stevie said: “I’ll be talking about my career and the things I felt got the best performances from me, in terms of my own preparation and the work of the coaching staff around me.

“There will also be lots of advice on the new technology and techniques that have arrived in the last few years and are revolutionising training and coaching at all levels of sport.”

The seminar is being organised by Portadown-based Performa Sports, the makers of a cutting-edge performance analysis application already being used by Mayo, Armagh, Derry, All-Ireland club champions Crossmaglen Rangers and a host of other sports teams.

Chief executive Danny Turley said: “The seminar will look at the latest observational technology, video analysis tools and player development strategies.

“These were once only considered by elite level athletes. But the realisation that they have a huge impact on the small margins that define the outcome of a game means they are now filtering down to amateurs and semi-pros.”

Danny expects the discussions to show the players and coaches in attendance how performance analysis can improve their game.

He added: “I find it very inspirational to hear people who have won All-Ireland finals and Rugby World Cups talk about the little things that helped them to become winners and I’m sure others will, too.”
Anyone attending the event will also be entered into a draw to win free use of Performa Sports for their club for 12 months.

The seminars takes place at McHale Park in Castlebar on Monday, November 19, and Croke Park in Dublin on Thursday, November 29. Both events start at 7.30pm. Entry is free but places are limited.
