UL will be hoping to cause an upset against a heavily fancied DCU side. The star studded DCU are strong favourites to win the Gaelic Football intervarsity for only the fourth time in their history.

Form

UL were knocked out of last year’s Sigerson cup in the opening round by UUJ. So far this season the Limerick students have had a poor season. The Limerick side also failed to gain promotion to division one of the league before Christmas, losing out in the final to IT Blanchardstown by one point. UL suffered an extra time defeat at the hands of Waterford in the quarter final of the Mc Grath cup two weeks ago.

DCU won last year’s Sigerson cup defeating NUI Maynooth in the final. In the league this year, DCU failed to progress from the group stages. Also in the Bord Na Mona, the Dublin students failed to progress from the group stages, being held to a draw by Wicklow and losing out to Dublin.

Team News

UL manager Declan O’Keefe is able to call upon the services of county players such as Tipperary’s Alan Maloney, Kerry’s Ambrose O’Donovan and Waterford’s Paul White

DCU manager has an embarrassment of riches to select from. All star Paul Flynn captains the side. Michael Murphy  Dean Rock are all forward options. Dublin pair James Mc Carthy and Johnny Cooper and Longford’s Michael Quinn make up a strong back line.

Players to watch

UL- Alan Maloney

The Tipperary centre forward is an integral part of both UL and Tipperary’s plans and if UL are to cause an upset, Maloney will have to be on top form.

DCU – Paul Flynn

A current All Star, Flynn is currently the best wing forward in the game. Good a winning breaks, linking play, and scoring spectacular points.
