We have preview, team news and live score commentary updates from Wexford and Laois who meet in the Third Round of the All Ireland Football Qualifiers, at Wexford Park, this Saturday at 7pm.
This all Leinster clash has the makings of a decent game, with both counties quietly confident of progressing to the next stage of the competition. It would not be a surprise were either to win out, so supporters should be in for a thrilling contest.
Laois were beaten by Louth in the first round of the Leinster championship, but have recovered well in recent weeks, and wins over Carlow and Clare, see them right back in the hunt. The O’Moore County seem to enjoy the back door series and can never be written off at this stage of the season.
Wexford beat Louth and probably had genuine hopes of a Leinster Final appearance this year, but everything came unstuck against Meath in the semi final. Aidan O’Brien has done a great job with the South East side, and if they negotiate this weekends hurdle, they could be a difficult team to beat in later rounds.
Laois – Eoin Culliton; Paul Begley, Mark Timmons, Peter O’Leary; Darren Strong, Kieran Lillis, Padraig McMahon; Padraig Clancy, John O’Loughlin; Ross Munnelly, Donal Kingston, Colm Begley; Billy Sheehan, Conor Meredith, David Conway.
Wexford – Anthony Masterson; Michael Furlong, Graeme Molloy, Robert Tierney; Brian Malone, David Murphy, Adrian Flynn; Daithi Waters, Rory Quinlivan; James Holmes, Redmond Barry, Aindreas Doyle; Ciaran Lyng, Paddy Byrne, PJ Banville.
Players To Watch
Colm Begley will need to get a grip around midfield and the half forward line if Laois are to gain a foothold, while Ciaran Lyng will be expected to lead the Wexford charge.
Wexford may just have enough to see them through to the next round. Home advantage is a big help, and the team have been playing well in recent months. So back them at 1/1 with Boylesports.com
