Graeme McDowell fell short at the quarter-final stage in his bid to win the WGC Match Play Quarter Final in Arizona.

Ian Poulter is 7/4 to win the WGC Match Play Championship with Boylesports.com.

McDowell had already overcome fellow Irishman Shane Lowry (3 & 2) earlier in the day, but could not complete a double at Dove Mountain, losing out to Jason Day on the 18th hole.

‘G-Mac’ will be very disappointed with the manner of the defeat. He found himself two up after just three holes, but bogies on the 4th and the 7th levelled the match.

Day took the lead for the first time when he birdied the 11th, but McDowell came storming back with a superb birdie on the 14th.

In truth, neither McDowell nor Day were at the top of their game, and both players traded holes on the 15th and 16th to set up a grandstand finish.

However, McDowell had a terrible bogey five on the 17th and Day held his nerve on the 18th to set up a semi-final showdown with Matt Kuchar.

Semi-finals:

Jason Day (Aus) v Matt Kuchar (US)
Hunter Mahan (US) v Ian Poulter (Eng)
