Irish golfer Shane Lowry has said that he now feels he has the confidence to go out and perform at the highest level, following his impressive performances in the WGC-Accenture Match Play in Arizona.

Rory McIlroy is 15/2 to win the US Masters with Boylsports.com

The 25-year-old beat world No 1 Rory McIlroy in the first round, then enjoyed a 6&5 win over PGA Tour veteran Carl Pettersson, before he was out-putted by Graeme McDowell in Saturday’s third round. However, the experience of the past week has not been lost on him:

“I’ll learn a lot from this week. I’ve done well and I will get some ranking points and some good exposure. I love it over here.  I’ve known all along that I am confident in my own ability and good enough to compete at the highest level. I think I have shown myself that this week. It was obviously great beating Rory because my confidence was low coming here and deep down, I wasn’t expecting to do much.

“But some of the golf I played this week has given me the confidence to keep going now for the rest of the year.”

Lowry had to make it to the semi-finals to break into the world’s top 50 and qualify for next week’s WGC-Cadillac Championship in Miami. Although he just fell short of doing so, his defeat guarantees that Pádraig Harrington will instead hold on to 50th in the world and qualify for that tournament.
