The British Athletics Indoor Championships takes place this weekend, the 8th & 9th of February in the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
A large contingent of Irish athletes will compete in Sheffield ahead of the Irish Indoor Championships in AIT International Arena in Athlone which takes place the following week on the 15th and 16th of February.
After opening her season with a 7.40 second win at the Open Indoor Games last weekend Amy Foster (City of Lisburn AC) will compete in the 60m event. Richard Morrissey (Crusaders AC) whohas run 47.84 seconds for the 400m this season will go in the 400m while European junior silver medallist Sarah Lavin (UCD AC) will target a fast time in the 60m hurdles. Irish heptathlon record holderKelly Proper (Ferrybank AC) contests the long jump while club mate Niamh Whelan is entered in the 200m.
Roseanne Galligan (Newbrige AC) tops the 2014 Irish indoor rankings over 800m (2.03.69) moves up in distance to tackle the 1500m in Sheffield. While Claire Tarplee (Dundrum South Dublin AC) who tops the 1500m 2014 indoor lists (4.14.61) drops down in distance to the 800m.
World championship representative Paul Pollock (Annadale Striders AC) swaps the roads for the indoor track as he is set to test his speed over 3,000m. The 3,000m line-up also includes Rory Chesser (Ennis Track AC) and Daniel Mooney (Letterkenny AC)competes in the men’s 1500m.
