The excitement was in the South this weekend for the third round of the Irish Forestry Championship, in the form of the Moonraker Stages Rally hosted by Munster Car Club.
With an exciting entry after the comedown of the Circuit of Ireland IRC stages over the weekend before, the Northern drivers have dominated the Forestry Championship to date.
The southern stages around the Tallow/Lismore/West Waterford areas proved to be testing for all entrants.
Mitsubishi Evo 9 driver Owen Murphy and co-driver James O’Brien took the first overall position. Hugely competitive and having a terrific season to date driver Garry Jennings with co-driver Barry McNulty in their Subaru Impreza took second overall position 0.12 seconds behind the leader.
Vincent McAree and co-driver took third position in their Mitsubishi Evo 0.13 behind Murphy/O’Brien. Showing a 0.01 second between second and third placing, this was a hot battle throughout.
The next rounds are remaining in the South of Ireland with the Cork Rally taking place on the 19th May and then onto Mitchelstown in July.
The third round of the Scottish Rally Championship took place on Saturday 14th April in Aberdeen, North East Scotland.
Namely called the Granite City Stages Rally, hosted by Aberdeen & District Motor Club, this was proved to be a repeat winning victory for Scottish driver David Bogie and co-driver Kevin Rae in their Mitsubishi Evo. This is Bogie’s / Rae’s third consecutive win having won the first two rounds of the championship already with the Snowmans Rally in February and the Borders Rally in March.
Ford Focus WRC performance cars dominated second and third placing, namely Euan Thorburn and co-driver Paul Beaton in second and Paul Ben with co-driver Daniel O’Brien in third position.
The fourth round of Scottish Rally Championship takes place in the international grounds of the Jim Clarke Rally on June 3rd in Duns in the Scottish Borders.
