Eeckhout finishes 4th at the Omloop van het Waasland in Belgium.
Veteran An Post rider Niko Eeckhout continued his fine early season form by finishing 4th at today’s Omloop van het Waasland in Belgium. He narrowly missed out on his second victory in a week as he was edged out in a bunch sprint at the finish which was won by Aidis Kruopis (Landbouwkrediet).
Next best placed in the An Post team was Lithuanian Darijus Dzervus in 29th, while Dubliner Philip Lavery finished in 51st.
Team manager Kurt Bogaerts was not only pleased with Eeckhout’s placing, but also the team’s overall performance, which included five An Post riders (Fenn, Ghyllebert, McNally, Eeckhout and Lavery) involved in breakaways during the day.
“Niko was brilliant again this week, but I’m more satisfied with how well the team raced. We were involved in most of the attacks in the race and overall we rode really aggressively today.”
“That is what our tactics (ride aggressively) have been since the start of the season and we have got the results we deserve in the last couple of races.” Bogaerts added.
