Chloe Magee and Scott Evans are both through to the quarter-finals at the at the Russia White Nights Pre Olympic Badminton tournament in Gatchina, Russia.
In the women’s singles, Chloe Magee trailed Marija Ulitina of Ukraine 11-13 halfway through the first set, but took control to win the match 21-13, 21-13. Next up for Magee is Monika Fasungova of Slovakia.
Scott Evans took only 20 minutes to dismiss the challenge of Finnish player Anton Kaisti 21-13, 21-12 and now plays No 2 seed Ville Lang of Finland for a place in the semi-final.
In the mixed doubles, Chloe and Sam Magee were equally convincing, beating Russian pair Sergey Don and Polina Voronko in straights sets and now face Andrej Ashmarin and Anastasia Panushkina, also Russia, today.
Not to lucky was the men’s doubles pairing of Scott Evans and Sam Magee. Although they won the opening set of their match against Andrej Ashmarin and Nikita Khakimov of Russia, the Russians came back to win the second and force the tiebreaker. After the Irish pair led initially, the Russians went ahead at 14-11 and held on to win 21-17.
