Irish showjumper Cian O’Connor and the gelding Blue Loyd have won a bronze medal at Olympic show jumping final at Greenwich Park.

The 32 year old was not even scheduled to compete today but joined today’s start-list after Rolf-Goran Bengtsson’s horse Casall had been withdrawn from the final.

O’Connor had no jumping faults in either round, but he got one time fault for going .02 of second over the allowed time.

He then had a jump off for Silver/Bronze medal and had to be happy with a bronze  medal when Gerco Schroder had a clear round in the jump off.

O’Connor was on time to claim the silver but clipped the last jump and has to make do with bronze.

The medal offers some vindication for O’Connor who had his 2004 gold stripped off him and a three month ban imposed when his horse Waterford Crystal tested positive for a banned, but not performance enhancing, substance.
