15 runners are set to go to post for today’s Ascot Gold Cup with the Aidan O’Brien trained Leading Light heading the betting at 8/11.
Estimate, who won the race last year, is priced at 9/1 to repeat her success, with the Tom Dascombe trained Brown Panther also priced at 6/1 to provide former footballer Michael Owen with Royal Ascot success.
Johnny Murtagh who was narrowly denied as a jockey on Simenon (16/1) in the race last year will train Royal Diamond in a bid for success this year with Richard Hughes booked to ride the eight year old son of King’s Best who is priced at 16/1.
Dermot Weld last won the race with Rite of Passage in 2010 and Thursday’s race sees him represented by Pale Mimosa who is priced at 10/1, whilst Michael Winters will saddle Missunited (33/1).
Liam Glynn, PR Executive at Boylesports said “Leading Light is by far our worst Ante post result having been supported in from 9/4 to his current price of 6/4 that continues to attract support.”
He added “The Royal filly, Estimate, is proving a popular each way bet at 6/1 to retain her Gold Cup crown with Dermot Weld’s Pale Mimosa also nibbled into 10/1 from 12/1.”
