Ferrari boss not getting carried away

President of Ferrari Luca di Montezemolo has praised the team but has been quick to point out that they still have a long way to go to challenge McLaren and Mercedes over the course of the season.

Fernando Alonso’s win at the rain-soaked Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang on Sunday propelled the Italian to the top of the Driver’s Championship standings, but Ferrari have struggled for pace in testing and qualifying compared to the two Mercedes-powered cars.

Di Montezemolo told the Ferrari website he was “very pleased for Stefano Domenicali (Ferrari Team Principal) and all his people who got a nice reward for doing a perfect job on the track, from the strategy to the pit stops to the car preparation.”

He added “there is still a lot of work to do, but this win is a further shot in the arm that was much needed at a time like this.”
