The final Vodafone National Series race of the 2013 season took place on Sunday attracting a high quality field of over 200 athletes.
Fresh from his 6th place AG finish and 10th place overall at the Age Group World Championships in London, Kevin Thornton was on form again winning the Blacksod triathlon in a time of 2:00:54. Thornton pulled out a huge 6 minute winning margin over the swim and bike and held on during the tough 10km run.
Cormac McGarry was 2nd in 2:06:56 followed by recent Irish Ironman Record Holder Liam Dolan, sporting a fetching outfit, 3rd in 2:07:08. Dolan was well down out of the swim but clocked the fastest bike split to pull him self back into the race.
The ladies race was close fought however Tamara Maxantova came out victorious in 2:24:32. Marie Bolan was just over a minute behind in 2nd while Wicklow TC’s Deirdre Hough was delighted to make her first ever Vodafone National Series podium finishing in a time of 2:29:52.
