Donegal’s Chloe Magee reached two finals on Saturday at the 2014 Hellas open in Greece. Magee had her work cut out on route to the singles final as she came through an hour long match with number 5 seed Mette Poulsen of Denmark.
The Irish no.1 came through the match winning with the narrowest of margins 24-22 in the final game. She then eased through Estonian Laura Vana 21-14 21-17 to set up an exciting final with number one seed Linda Zetchiri of Bulgaria.
In the mixed doubles Chloe took to the court with brother Sam to make her second final of the day. The Irish number one pairing took out Pawel Pietryj and Aneta Wojtkowska of Poland with a comprehensive 21-12 21-18 scoreline. In the semi-final Chloe was playing her 4th game of the day and seventh game of the tournament so it was going to take a big performance from her partner Sam Magee to control the match.
The opposition from Germany Marvin Emil Seidel and Linda Efler had made their way to the semi without dropping a game so it was set to be an exciting affair. The Irish eased through the opening set 21-12. In the second set with fatigue setting in the German pairing pushed the Irish all the way to 23-22 but it was the Magees who took the crucial final point to secure victory and to book a place in the final line up.
