A team of Ireland’s most experienced badminton players flew out Ankara Turkey at the weekend to represent Ireland at the World Masters Championships which commenced on Monday.
Pam Peard, Sian Williams, Sylvia Campion, Willie Stevenson, Tony Clarke and Bob Evans have put in a long hot summer of training to help them cope with the Turkish heat. In the 50+ women’s doubles, Pam Peard and Sian Williams hope to follow their silver at the All England Masters with another strong performance and with a bit of luck in the draw they’re more than capable of going all the way. Both women also play in the singles while Pam partners Michael Karlsson from Sweden in the mixed.
Over-40 national champions Sylvia Campion and Willie Stevenson play in the 40+ mixed – their second world championships. Tony Clarke and Bob Evans play in the 65+ singles and doubles. Tony has had a fantastic season winning Ulster, Leinster and National titles. Bob is no stranger to winning either having taken national singles and doubles titles in 2012.
