Ireland’s newest worldwide sporting sensation, Conor McGregor has been dealt a massive injury blow. McGregoer, a mixed-martial-artist, who recently secured his second win in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has suffered a serious knee and faces a significantly long period on the sidelines.
UFC President, Dana White, confirmed the news on Thursday night when speaking to Fox Sports. It is a cruciate knee ligament injury that could keep McGregor out of the octagon for up to a year. McGregor had just competed in his second UFC contest and he maintained his unbeaten start to his career in one of the world’s fastest growing sporting organisations. McGregor should bring mma to a new level in Ireland and give inspiration to more Irish fighters to get right to the very top of mma.
It was confirmed that he sustained the injury during last Saturdays’s fight with Max Holloway, but it did not prevent McGregor from winning. He has taken the UFC by storm over the last few months. Being the first Irish man to fight in the organisation has proved to be popular both here and in the U.S.A and while the injury will be a setback, we definitely haven’t heard the end of McGregor.
