Equestrian: Swail and Sweetnam to the fore in United States

Irish show jumpers have been having a field day at the World Cup show in Washington, with Cork’s Shane Sweetnam and the Irish-bred Solerina winning the 20,000 dollar Gambler’s Choice competition, and Co. Down’s Conor Swail taking third place on Ariana. 

Swail and Ariana also claimed first place in the opening speed competition with Darragh Kenny and Top Gun IV taking the runner-up spo

Meanwhile in France,Mullingar-born three day eventer Joseph Murphy moved up to 15th place at the big four-star fixture in Pau, France  on Saturday afternoon, after producing a text-book clear cross country round.

Riding the Irish Sport Horse Electric Cruise, the 37 year-old jumped from the 44th place he held after the dressage phase on Friday.

The event, which currently sees Britain’s William Fox-Pitt hold the top three places, finisheson Sunday with the show jumping phase.
