Golf Results –  Maurice Kelly from Naas Golf Club captured the Irish Seniors Close Championship at Tullamore.

Coming from two-strokes behind the overnight leader Neville Steedman, Kelly got off to a poor start with dropped shots on the first three holes to fall six shots behind Steedman who had picked up a shot on the third.

Birdies would follow for Kelly on holes 4, 5, 7, 9 and 10 while Steedman, the former player with Shamrock Rovers, began to drop shots.

Kelly’s win was assured on the back nine when Steedman dropped eight shots in the final six holes.

This is Kelly’s third win in this championship having lifted the inaugural event in 2009 and successfully defended his title in 2010.

John Hughes (Woodbrook) was runner-up, some eight shots behind Kelly with Alan Lilley (Ballyclare) and Steedman (Courtown) one shot further back.
