Irish Olympic Council President Pat Hickey hospitalised after arrest in Brazil

The president of the Olympic Council of Ireland, Pat Hickey has been arrested in Brazil according to reports in the Brazilian media. Brazil media are reporting that Hickey was arrested at the Barra De Tijuca hotel this morning.

, Hickey was also taken to hospital after feeling sick the moment he got arrested. Hickey’s arrest is believed to be linked with questioning over his involvement in the irregular sale of Olympic tickets.

The reports of the arrest came in Brazilian newspaper Estadao and it has since been confirmed by several other journalists who are based at the Olympic Games in Rio. Journalist Jamil Chade said in a tweet on Twitter ‘IOC Member Hickey been taken to hospital after feeling sick at the moment he got arrested.

Personally, I believe Hickey has been arrested so that he can’t leave the country until he gives full details of all contracts. His arrest comes on the back of reports of corruption in the Olympics.
