An 11-strong Irish team has been selected for the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, on March 3rd-5th.

European outdoor 1,500m bronze medallist Ciara Mageean will be looking for another strong showing in Belgrade where she will be joined by fellow Rio Olympian Kerry O’Flaherty, who competed in Rio in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Brian Gregan of Clonliffe Harriers is ranked 10th on the European indoor list in the 400m event. If running up to his ranking he should achieve a semi-final place in Belgrade in the two lap event.

John Travers (Donore Harriers) is in the Men’s 1,500m and he will be aiming to replicate his performance from the last edition in Prague by making the final.

Emerald’s 17-year-old Ciara Neville will make her first major senior championship appearance in the 60m sprint. Amy Foster (City of Lisburn) will compete in the same event, and Bandon’s Phil Healy is entered in both the short sprint and the 400m where she won the Irish Life Health national senior indoor title at the weekend. Sinéad Denny (DSD) will join the Cork woman in the 400m, and event in which Denny made the semi-finals at the European Championships in 2016.

Zak Curran (DSD) and Tomás Cotter (Dunleer) make their European Indoor debuts in the 800m and 3,000m respectively. The final team member is North Down’s experienced indoor international Ben Reynolds who will compete in the 60m hurdles.
