South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius has been formally charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, and will face trial between 3rd- 20th of March 2014.
The former Olympic athlete was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons in February 2013 when Steenkamp was found dead in their home.
The conditions of Pistorius’s bail were not changed. He was granted bail after a hearing earlier this year and he shall remain under the same conditions. The case has been confirmed that the South African state will argue that Pistorious intended to kill Steenkamp. He will face charges of premeditated murder and there are 107 witnesses prepared to give evidence against Pistorius.
While Pistorius has admitted to shooting Steenkamp, he denies murder and will try to defend himself in March of next year. If convicted, Pistorius could be in line for a life sentence. The case may not go quiet for a while but there is no doubt that this will be one of the biggest sporting stories come the beginning of 2014.
