Cycling Ireland officials have voted against nominating Pat McQuaid for a third term as president of the UCI.

McQuaid lost a vote at an Emergency General Meeting, by 91 to 74. Without the support of Cycling Ireland, McQuaid could struggle to win a third term with the UCI.

McQuaid had been nominated for the presidency by Switzerland, but that nomination is facing a legal challenge. British Cycling president Brian Cookson has already said that he plans to stand against McQuaid if he is nominated.
