Ireland’s 16 years old Seamus O’Connor has another two runs,on Saturday as he aims to qualify for the final, as a result of this morning’s action in Sochi 2014.

Competing in the  slopestyle snowboarding event’s qualifiers this morning O’Connor finished 13th in his heat – only the top four in each qualify directly for the finals.. So in Saturday’s semi-finals the San Diego-born youngster, a future medal prospect for sure,if not for Sochi, is among some 21 others who will chase those last remaining places.

This morning he gained 33.50 in his first run before improving on that with 40.00 second time round ; indeed had he not landed poorly at the end of that second attempt his score would have been even higher but overall two encouraging attempts on day one for the youngest competitor in the event.

Seamus will also compete in Tuesday’s halfpipe event.
