Black Caviar given Dubai entries

Updated: January 19, 2012

Black Caviar, the unbeaten Australian sprinter, has been entered in both the Golden Shaheen and Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan on World Cup night.

The winner of all 16 of her races to date, and rated second only to Frankel in the world thoroughbred rankings, the mare is due to return to action for the first of three runs in Australia beginning at Moonee Valley later this month.

However, trainer Peter Moody has given himself the option of taking her to Meydan afterwards in March where a run in the Golden Shaheen could see her clash with Sepoy, the Sheikh Mohammed-owned colt who won nine out of ten starts in Australia last year and is now in Dubai.

“What racecourse wouldn’t want Black Caviar?” said Martin Talty, the Dubai Racing Club’s international manager on Wednesday. “We are over the moon that she has been entered. We know she is going to have three runs in Australia but there is the option of a$2 million race or a $1 million race on the way to Ascot.

“If she contested the Golden Shaheen she would be running for virtually $1.8 million because of a bonus put up for winning the Patinack Farm Classic last November as part of the Global Sprint Challenge. Everyone in Australia was desperately looking forward to her taking on Sepoy and if she runs in the Golden Shaheen then she would.”
