Galileo Rock, placed already in two Classics, will run this afternoon in the world’s oldest Classic, the St Leger, at Doncaster.
His trainer David Wachman, who walked the course at 5.30am and gave the go-ahead for the colt to fly over this morning from Ireland, said: “I was pleasantly surprised by the ground – we would gallop on this at home so there is no reason not run.
“I am going to run Galileo Rock – the ground is not as bad as I though it would be. It walked very sound and my stick did not go in as far as I thought it would.”
He would have preferred faster ground for Galileo Rock. Wachman added: “He is a magnificent-actioned horse and goes very well on fast ground and others might not.”
